O’Lydia’s takes over Slim’s; Keeps some staples and adds her own thumb print

I recently had the chance to speak to Linda Sackett, the new owner of O’Lydia’s, formerly Slim’s on 1st, a Walkers Point staple since 1995. Linda offically became the owner of the business February 14, and then changed the name March 21.

Linda’s name may sound familiar — she ran the Brown Bottle inside the Historic Schlitz Brewery Building Downtown from 1992 to 2004 until Dean Cannestra and Libiamo took over the space.

Linda tells me she is excited about her new menu (including Sunday brunch).  She has added some things to give it her own thumb print but kept many of the favorites that the folks around Slim’s are used to — like Classic Rueben rolls, the Irish Beef Sandwich, and of course Slim’s famous Meatloaf.

On the appetizer side she added the Bruschetta, Blue Moon Onion Rings, Pineapple Shrimp, Steak Strips, Irish Soaker and a Reuben Dip. For sandwiches she added the Leg O’Lamb, the Cuban, the Country Western Turkey and the Nation Tuna Salad.  Linda has also expanded its salad offerings including a Pineapple Shrimp Salad.

Another new feature you will see are the three weekly dinner specials.  This past week’s specials (Mar 21-28)  included a Grilled Pork Loin with apple chutney and horseradish mashed potatoes, Grilled NY Strip with bleu cheese hash browns,  and BBQ’d Ribs, all served with vegetables and choice of soup or salad.

Linda says, “I am very proud of the fact that all of our sauces, dressings, soups, etc are made from scratch in our prep kitchen. Slim set the pace by offering excellent food and great service and I intend to keep it that way.”

O’Lydia’s will continue to offer a traditional Milwaukee Fish Fry as well as offering some specialty fish entrées, with a broiled and baked option.

Shuttles will continue to run to the remaining Bucks games and shuttles are already scheduled for Summerfest and Irish Fest.

Sunday Brunch will continue and so will its legendary open air patio

All Bloodies are all made from scratch, Eggs Benedict, Eggs Florentine, French Toast, Omelets (Seafood, Southwest, Farmers) all made to order.

Last week’s brunch specials included banana pancakes, biscuits and gravy with bleu cheese hash browns. This Sunday’s special is corned beef hash.

Brunch will be served every Sunday from 10am until 3pm.
