Welcome to MilwaukeeFood.com’s coverage of the Milwaukee Food Wars from the Travel Channel: This page was updated several times per day during the Milwaukee Food Wars filming.
Update: May 9, 2010 at 12:03pm: Today, AJ Bombers released its entry into the Milwaukee Food Wars.
“Thee Milwaukee Burger” from AJ Bombers is topped with Wisconsin Colby/Jack cheese, Nueske’s Applewood smoked bacon, and Schlitz onions. And while, we can’t tell you the winner, you can now stop by and taste one for yourself. We will post a picture of Sobelman’s burger Monday.
Keeping the winner under wraps helps to give Milwaukee a shot at the premier episode – Season 2 of Food Wars on The Travel Channel, so thanks for understanding.
Update: May 7, 2010 at 1:52pm: AJ Bombers is asking its fans to show up and gather at AJ Bombers Saturday at 11am. Sobelman’s is inviting all its supporters to visit the restaurant at 10am Saturday and head over to Bar Louie at around 11:30am. Anyone that visit’s Sobelman’s between 10am and 11:30am Saturday will receive 1/2 off its Bloody Marys. Fun includes shirt and sign designs at both locations for your creative expression.
Update: May 7, 2010 at 12:16pm: I stopped in at Sobelman’s this afternoon to check out the second day of filming of the Milwaukee Food Wars series. When arriving I found that there was a line of people out the door and was told there would be an hour wait for a table. Not one to take advantage of my job title (Founder of MilwaukeeFood.com), I absolutely did today and was immediately swept to the front of the line so I could get in and report back to you, the reader.
After being seated my server greeted me and took my drink order within the first five minutes. When my Bloody Mary arrived I ordered the Sobelman Burger which was arrived pretty quick too under ten minutes. Of course I was happy with my both my Sobelman staples, the bloody and the burger. The crowds were to overwhelming so I ended up leaving after only about an or so there.
Update: May 6, 2010 at 5:00pm: AJ Bombers announced via Twitter this evening that the Food Wars film crew will return to AJ Bombers Friday, May 7th at 11:30am to shoot again. So if you missed out today, you’ll still have one more chance to be filmed while dining at AJ Bombers.
Update: May 6, 2010 at 4:56pm: Behind the scenes at the Milwaukee Food Wars Thursday with Channel 4′s Susan Kim. View video here.
Update May 6, 2010 at 2:56pm: I just returned from the filming at AJ Bombers. I arrived at around 12pm and was lucky to grab a seat at the bar right away. It looked like if you wanted to eat in the dining room you had to wait about 15-20 minutes for a table. The Food Wars and the Bomber wait staff were all very polite and looked to be enjoying the crowd. I look forward to checking in on the action from Sobelman’s Friday.

Update: Monday, May 3, 2010
If you haven’t heard yet that the Travel Channel’s Food Wars is coming into to town this week to film, you must have been sleeping under a rock these past few weeks.
This is going to be great exposure for our fine city of Milwaukee — and so much fun at the same time.
The crew from The Travel Channel show, Food Wars will be in Milwaukee filming at AJ Bombers on Thursday 5/6, Friday 5/7 at Sobelmans and Saturday 5/8 at a “neutral” location at Bar Louie at 1114 N. Water Street for the burger face off.
Each burger joint will make “The Ulitmate Milwaukee Cheeseburger” topped with Nueske’s Applewood smoked bacon, Colby cheese and fried onions.
An impartial panel of judges site will determine the winner Saturday at Bar Louie. The restaurant that wins Food Wars gets the honor of listing Milwaukee’s best burger on their menu, exactly the way that it was prepared for the competition. The loser goes home! Or they can chose to list their losing burger on their menu as Milwaukee’s 2nd best burger.
The Travel Channel hopes to air the Milwaukee episode some time on August and expects to highlight much of the city of Milwaukee itself in the episode.
