Sobelman’s Pub and Grill posted on its facebook page today that the Sobelman’s @ Marquette sold 470+ burgers on the first day.
August 22, 2011 at 10:58am: Today, Dave and Melanie Sobelman will expand their burger empire when they open the door at their third restaurant, Sobelman’s @ Marquette.
Dave and Melanie have a come a long way since they met back in 1993 and married in 1994. In 2001 the couple opened their first restaurant, Sobelmans Pub and Grill inside one of Milwaukee’s original Schlitz taverns at 1900 W. St. Paul Ave. Sobelman’s would become a Milwaukee staple for the place to go for Milwaukee’s best burger.
In 2009, Dave and Melanie opened their second reaturant, Sobelman’s Tall Grass Grill. This location focuses on healthier burgers made from 100% grass-fed beef.
Today, Sobelmans @ Marquette at 1601 W. Wells St. opens inside the space that housed Angelo’s Pizza Restaurant and Bar for over 50 years. Angelo’s had been a staple on the Marqutte campus since 1956. Angelo’s had a great run up until the end when it served its last customer in October, 2010.
According to a post from OnMilwaukee.com on October 11, 2010, Marquette had posted the following statement on its main Twitter account; ”Angelo’s owner (is) retiring and asked MU to purchase. Gyros (located in same building at 1607 W. Wells St.) will continue to lease. MU (is) working on (securing an) operator for pizza business.”
Sobelmans @ Marquette will be open Monday-Saturday from 11am-12am (food til 11pm) and Sunday from 11am-10pm. Dave Sobelman tells me that he plans to stay open til bar time Thursday-Saturday starting some time in Septemebr when they get their liquor license.

The East Town Association’s lunchtime Food Truck Fridays at Cathedral Square Park is on hiatus this week because of Bastille Days which runs today through Sunday.
Saturday’s East Town Market at Cathedral Square will also be closed this weekend.
Both events will resume normal schedules next week.
Construction is underway for The Bartolotta Restaurants newest concept, The Rumpus Room, a gastro pub which will combine unique flavors, an expansive selection of craft beers and a casual atmosphere located at 1030 N. Water Street.
The Rumpus Room will take over the site of Eagan’s restaurant which closed this past May.
The Bartolotta Restaurants owner, Joe Bartolotta, recalls fond memories of lively gatherings and the energetic atmosphere of his fathers tavern.
The new pubs name, The Rumpus Room, was inspired by the tavern Joe’s father established and ran for nine years, in the mid 1950s and early 1960s at 29th St. and North Ave. The name Rumpus Room means a place where people come together for entertainment, fun, camaraderie and recreation.
My dad provided inspiration for my work with The Bartolotta Restaurants and opening The Rumpus Room is one way we can pay tribute to his influence on our organization and the community. said Joe Bartolotta.
The new gastro pub is an opportunity to embrace a casual dining experience that combines your favorite restaurant and bar, unites them together with elements of reasonably priced quality food in a comfortable bar environment.
The group will lean on the experience of a few of their current distinguished chefs to extend an already expansive array of culinary offerings. Under the direction of Paul Bartolotta and Corporate Chef Adam Siegel, Bacchus Chef de Cuisine, Andrew Ruiz, will take the role as Executive Chef of The Rumpus Room.
The Rumpus Room is set to open in Fall, 2011.
